Route description Schiphol Airport – The Hague Central Station or The Hague HS Trainstation
You can take a taxi from the airport to your hotel in The Hague, but
this is fairly expensive. The Dutch railway system is accurate, fast
and trains to The Hague depart roughly every ten minutes.
With the train to The Hague Central Station
From the Airport, there are four trains an hour that take you to The
Hague Central Station. At .04 and .34 there is a straight train. If you
take the train at .16 or .46 you have to change at Leiden Central
Station. A single ticket is appr. € 7 in the second class and
appr. € 11.40 in the first class. The journey takes approximately
half an hour. You can buy a ticket at a vending machine at the entrance
to the platforms or at the counter. At night, a night train departs
from Schiphol to The Hague Central Station every hour. This train
leaves at 1.14, 2.14, 3.14 and 4.14 am.
With the train to The Hague HS
You can also take a train to The Hague HS. This station is situated at
about the same distance of the Mercure hotel as The Hague Central
Station. Straight trains from Schiphol to The Hague HS depart every
hour at .16, .40 and .46. If you take the train at .04, .24 or .54 you
have to change at Leiden Central Station. The fee is the same as the
fee to The Hague Central Station. There is no service from Schiphol to
The Hague HS at night (between 1 and 5 am).
The trains call at every station mentioned on the board hanging over the platform.
INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU PREFER TO TAKE THE TRAM FROM THE HAGUE CENTRAL STATION:
Ticket: If you want to use the tram in Holland, you have to use a
‘strippenkaart’. You can not buy this card in the tram but
you have to buy it at the station hall at the HTM office, the Bruna
bookstore or the ‘Kiosk’. You need a blue one and you can
use this with multiple people. The price is € 6,70. You can also
buy a ticket from the driver, this is € 1.60 for a single ride.
You have to walk outside of the Central Station, when you exit the
platform you go left. In front of you, you will see the tram platforms.
If you take tram 9 or 15, you have to exit at the second stop, called
‘Spui-Stadhuis’. If you take tram 16 you exit at the 4th
stop, also called ‘Spui-Stadhuis’.
When you get on the tram, you have to use your strippenkaart to make
the trip valid. Go to the tram driver; tell him with how many persons
you are and where you are going (stop Spui-Stadhuis). He will stamp the
card for you. You can also buy a ticket from the driver.
When you exit the tram, you will find yourself on the Spui. Across the
street, slightly to the right you will see a high blue building, the
Mercure Hotel. The white building across the street on the left is the
City Hall.

You have to exit the train station through the main entrance. In front
of you are the tram platforms. You have to use the platforms on your
right hand side, the letters are mentioned below.
There are three trams you can take to the City Hall. These are:
Tram 1 in the direction of ‘Scheveningen Noorderstrand’ (platform B)
Tram 9 in the direction of ‘Scheveningen Noorderstrand’ (platform A)
Tram 16 in the direction of ‘Centraal Station’ (platform B)
You have to exit at the second stop, called ‘Spui-Stadhuis’.
